The Lake District centred on the northern English counties of Cumbria and Lancashire has long been a source of inspiration to poets and writers. The area is quite compact with valleys radiating from the centre like the spokes of a wheel, each of which has its own character and attractions photographically. I was born and brought up on the western coastal fringe of the area and lived there off and on for almost 40 years during which time my interest in photography was pretty limited. Naturally, now I no longer live there I am very keen to spend time photographing the landscape I used to know well.
